Dental assistant (Full-Time) job position at Balmir-Thevenin & Associates

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

Chairside Assistance:

Assist the dentist during examinations, restorative treatments, oral surgeries, preventive care, and other dental procedures
Prepare instruments, equipment, and treatment materials prior to procedures
Anticipate the dentist’s needs during procedures and provide instruments and materials efficiently
Perform chairside suctioning, retraction, instrument transfer, and patient support during treatment
Assist in four-handed dentistry to improve efficiency and patient care

Patient Care and Communication:

Welcome and prepare patients for dental treatment
Obtain and update patient medical histories and dental records
Explain procedures, treatment expectations, and post-operative instructions to patients
Ensure patients are comfortable before, during, and after treatment
Educate patients on oral hygiene, preventive care, and post-treatment instructions
Address patient concerns professionally and escalate concerns to the dentist when necessary

Clinical and Laboratory Duties:

Take and process dental X-rays/radiographs in compliance with state regulations
Take dental impressions, fabricate temporary restorations, and assist with dental models when applicable
Prepare dental materials such as cements, impression materials, bonding agents, and restorative materials
Assist with coronal polishing, fluoride applications, sealants, and other permitted duties according to state regulations
Maintain dental equipment and ensure all tools are functioning properly

Sterilization and Infection Control:

Clean, disinfect, and sterilize dental instruments and operatories according to OSHA, CDC, and office protocols
Prepare and maintain treatment rooms before and after patient appointments
Ensure compliance with infection prevention and cross-contamination control procedures
Dispose of hazardous waste and contaminated materials properly

Administrative and Office Support:

Maintain accurate patient records, charting, and treatment documentation
Schedule patient appointments and coordinate treatment plans as needed
Verify treatment information and assist with insurance documentation when necessary
Monitor and restock dental supplies and inventory to ensure operational efficiency
Coordinate with front office staff to ensure smooth patient flow and communication
