Description Description

In this role, you will provide support to oncology patients who are seeking cancer-directed

therapy. The primary focus of the nurse includes, but is not limited to symptom

management, education regarding disease process, advance care planning

discussions, provide emotional support to patients and their loved ones, and

partner with oncology nurse practitioners to triage and identify patients with

palliative care needs. The incumbent works collaboratively with an

intradisciplinary team of physicians, nurse practitioners and social workers. Major functions include patient screening and assessment, patient

evaluation, patient communication, preparation and administration of

intravenous drugs, immunizations, and patient education.

Salary range: $59.46/hr - $88.39/hr

Qualifications

Required:

  • Possession of a MSN/BSN degree
  • Possession of current California RN license
  • Possession of BLS from the American Red Cross or American Heart Association
  • Obtain and maintain palliative care certification (if not at time of hiring, within 1 year of hiring)
  • Knowledge of the adult patient population and practice operations
  • Knowledge of all aspects procedures and medication administration
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and follow through for multiple patient treatments on an ongoing basis
  • Excellent blood withdrawal and IV skills
  • Knowledge and skill in Central line Catheters
  • Knowledge to recognize abnormal laboratory values and report to Physicians
  • Skill in usage of medical diagnostic equipment, as well as working knowledge of instruments and supplies required to perform necessary blood tests and procedures.
  • Ability to accept direction from leadership and act promptly
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with patients, peers, physicians, and administrators
  • Skill in listening perceptively, conveying awareness and responding to patients and visitors with health concerns using tact and discretion
  • Ability to interact diplomatically and sympathetically with patients, their families, and general public in a high volume, clinical setting
  • Skill in performing with frequent interruptions and/or distractions including the ability to accept equivocal circumstances and respond to changing priorities and deadlines
  • Ability to maintain equanimity in the face of resistance, indifference, and hostility
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and to work with sensitive and confidential information using discretion and judgment
  • Working knowledge of the UCLA registration system, appointment scheduling system and order entry system

Preferred:

  • Possession of PICC line certification
