The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology has an outstanding opportunity for a Anatomic Pathology Assistant WORK SCHEDULE

  • Per Diem (Intermittent, On-Call)

  • Certified, or certified within two years from the date of hire, at the Technician level by a nationally recognized certifying agency such as the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, the American Society of Clinical Laboratory Scientists, or the Microscopy Society of AmericaOR
  • Equivalent education/experience. PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Receives, handles, and stores specimens. Accessions specimens to appropriate subspecialty service and/ or residents. Provides support for residents and offers assistance.
  • Processes tissue using a tissue processor or appropriate equipment. Coordinates with Histology processor times and special embedding instructions.
  • Performs general laboratory functions such as, preparation of solutions, proper labeling of solutions, proper storage of chemical & supplies, maintenance of equipment, temperature monitoring. Uses general laboratory instrumentation including computer system appropriately.
  • Assists in Frozen Room & performs frozen sections and routine staining including cover slipping and turnout.
  • Uploads photographs or prints photographs.
  • Performs Quality Control. Follows QI procedures. Refers quality assurance issues to the appropriate supervisor and/ or department.
  • Is organized and prioritizes work. Keeps work area cleaned properly. Anticipates fellow staff members’ needs and offers support.
  • Follows all safety requirements including, standard precautions at all times, proper personal protective equipment and proper use of MSDS. Maintains safe working environment.
  • Performs daily routine functions: Placenta pick-up, Gross set-up, Frozen Section Room set-up.
