As a Medical Scribe, you will assist providers with various administrative aspects of patient care in the multi-specialty Stein Eye Calabasas clinic. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Recording patient history, exam findings, progress notes, procedure notes
  • Pre-chart of upcoming new and establish patients
  • Follow-up of laboratory and diagnostic results
  • Monitoring the completion of medical record documentation to assess for charts completeness and will send incomplete charts back to appropriate physicians
  • Assisting other office staff in abstracting, scanning, and cataloging records

Salary Range: $22.85-32.03 Hourly

This is a part-time temporary position scheduled to end in 12 months. May convert to Career.

This position has a tentative work schedule of: 7am-4pm on the 2nd, 3rd, 4th Monday and every 4th Friday of the month.

Senate Bill 525 was signed into law by Governor Newsom in October 2023. Starting June 1, 2024, SB525 sets a new $23 minimum wage for nonexempt healthcare workers and raises the exempt employee salary threshold to $1,380/week (equivalent to $5,980/month or $71,760/year). 1. As defined under SB525, healthcare workers are defined as employees who are involved in the provision of 'health care services,' which means 'patient care-related services including nursing; caregiving; services provided by medical residents, interns, or fellows; technical and ancillary services; janitorial work; housekeeping; grounds keeping; guard duties; business office clerical work; food services; laundry; medical coding and billing; call center and warehouse work; scheduling; and gift shop work; but only where such services support patient care'. 2. Employees (career, contract, student, per diem) in the UCLA Health medical facilities (e.g. Ronald Reagan Medical Center, Santa Monica UCLA Hospital, Resnick Neuropsychiatric Hospital, etc.) meet these criteria.Qualifications

Required:

  • Ability to perform under the pressure of frequent interruptions and distractions.
  • Ability to proofread very detailed materials and monitor work accurately.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively and diplomatically interact with others.
  • Demonstrated excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to speak clearly and distinctly using appropriate vocabulary and grammar to obtain and convey information.
  • Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to maintain equanimity in the face of resistance, indifference or hostility.
  • Knowledge and skill in using various computer programs such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook email and database software.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with co-workers, faculty, residents, nurses, students, University representatives, patients and the public.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule which will include evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to organize and track multiple records and requests and follow through in a timely manner.
  • Ability to handle confidential material while protecting its strict confidentiality.

Preferred:

  • A minimum of two years of scribe or related physician support experience.
  • Previous experience with electronic medical records such as Medhost, EPIC, Cerner, etc.
  • Detailed knowledge of medical terminology and the ability to distinguish different exams and medical diagnoses is required.
  • Knowledge of E&M codes and the level of documentation necessary for each billing level.
