Summary: Reporting to the Supervisor Patient Access, ED Registration, the Lead Patient Access Representative /Registrar provides guidance to clerical staff engaged in a variety of work related to the registration and/or reimbursement process for clients to the Emergency Department (ED). In addition, the incumbent performs routine as well as more technically difficult tasks associated with the duties of the ED Registrar. These duties involve, but are not limited to, complex financial screening of clients, problem resolution related to patient registrations, assisting with the development of staffing assignments, and providing resources to other hospital departments, staff, patients, etc., in order to complete the registration process. This position is responsible for monitoring of key performance indicators across all staff on the shift including point of service collections, eligibility verification, and registration quality. The Lead role assists in the orientation process for new employees including participating with the Supervisor when interviewing candidates and orienting new employees on the department process and procedures. This position is responsible for assisting with the creation of monthly department schedules for staffing including calling off employees, securing coverage for staff absences, and consulting with the Supervisor to ensure appropriate staffing levels based on patient volumes and department need. The incumbent assists the Supervisor with daily reports as needed, ensuring the department and staff are disaster- and downtime-ready, championing and implementing work flow process changes, and participating in performance improvement opportunities. Across all of these job functions, the incumbent must be compliant with all regulatory guidelines. The Lead also is responsible to fulfill all duties of the Patient Access Representative (registering patients by obtaining individual identifying and demographic data for the patients' permanent medical record, proper consents and insurance authorizations for admission have been obtained, verifying and discussing insurance benefits in a professional manner with the patient to ensure maximum benefit will be applied toward the patient's account, collecting patient co-pays and deductibles in accordance with the hospital policies, etc.).

Requirements:

1. High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

2. Three (3) years related experience is required.

3. Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience which demonstrates proficiency in the skills and knowledge required to perform the job is preferred.

4. Strong knowledge of Emergency Department services within a hospital setting is required.

5. Excellent judgment and critical thinking, as well as strong verbal and written communication skills, are required.

6. Certified Healthcare Access Associate (CHAA) credentials by the National Association of Healthcare Access Management (NAHAM) and/or Certified Patient Account Technician (CPAT) credentials by the American Association of Healthcare Administrative Management (AAHAM) is preferred.

Pay Range: $26.64 - $33.26
