Are you passionate about patient care and looking for an exciting role in a dynamic ophthalmology practice? Join our Westwood Cataract & Refractive Surgery Division as a Surgery Coordinator!

You will provide crucial support in arranging patients' surgeries and ensure they receive exceptional service. You will also provide front office support at the clinic to verify accurate patient registration. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate surgery appointments and handle all related tasks including pre-op testing, pre-authorizations approvals, financial clearance, and arranging post-op visits
  • Answer patient calls and in-basket messaging
  • Collect payments
  • Verify insurance information
  • Manage patient check-in/out processes
  • Assist with patient flow throughout the clinic

Salary Range: $29.42-42.14 Hourly

This position will require travel to other UCLA Health locations including Calabasas to provide surgery coordinating support as needed.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Minimum two years' experience working in a medical office as a surgery scheduler.
  • Experience scheduling patient appointments in computerized appointment scheduling system.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills which promote pleasant and effective communication with patients, staff and doctors.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to maintain records in a clear and orderly manner at the direction of the Office Manager.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology and diseases, as it applies to the eye.
  • Familiarity with current patient billing practices.
  • Sufficient computer keyboard skills to perform appointment scheduling, encountering, emailing, and other related computer tasks.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a systematic manner to maximize efficiency.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and to complete assignments in a timely manner.
  • Knowledge of current governmental programs to ensure reimbursement.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to multitask effectively.
  • Flexibility and adaptability given the dynamic nature of medicine and departmental needs.
  • The ability to interact calmly and effectively with providers, staff, as well as patients with difficult personalities.

Preferred:

  • Two years' experience working in a medical teaching institution.
  • Two years' experience in ophthalmology practice setting.
  • Familiarity with ophthalmology and related terminology.
