Provides dental patient care to all eligible recipients. Provides guidance to dental staff. Ensures that the provision of dental services takes place in a professional, compassionate environment.

Duties:

[Clinical]{.underline}

- Provides comprehensive routine dental care services to dental patients.
- Provides leadership for the Dental Clinic when the Chief Dental Officer is not available.
- Establishes and maintains contact with patients and families to ensure participation in a regular prevention program.

[Follow up]{.underline}

- Documents care in patient care electronic health record.
- Communicates with patients by telephone and written correspondence if necessary.
- Modifies plan of care with patient/family to achieve optimal health in conjunction with established treatment protocols.

[Health Promotion]{.underline}

- Recommends and provides preventative maintenance appropriate for age and risk factors.
- Discusses lifestyle changes that will promote well-being and health.
- Participates and provides insight in conjunction with Health Clinic and Health Services management.
- Participates in health promotion activities in the larger community as time permits.

[Education]{.underline}

- Enhances participation in self-care by providing patient and family health education.

[Quality Improvement]{.underline}

- Participates in quality assurance review activities as determined by the Chief Dental Officer.
- Maintains Certification and Licensure.
- Enhances current knowledge base by attending continuing education programs as deemed necessary.
- May supervise staff at times when Chief Dental Officer is unavailable.
- Provide input for productivity, utilization rates, new users and submission of necessary information to Accounting for service reimbursement. Recommend and implement improvements related to increased productivity, cost-effectiveness, improved patient care and quality control.
- Work in conjunction with Hygienist, medical, and WIC to support dental access for children.
- As time permits, participation in quality assurance and improvement activities as outlined by annual indicators, problem reviews, grant/contract requirements, chart audits, and patient complaints.
- Maintain dental referral linkages in the community.
- Other duties as assigned related to position.

[Qualifications:]{.underline}

Requires a DDS or DMD from a dental school accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation and either a certificate from an accredited General Practice residency program or 2 years of responsible experience in the profession.
